Traditional Finnish shaker box, made with the same technique as the box found at the Haithabu. During the Viking Age and throughout the Middle Ages to the present day, there is documentation about these wooden recipients. The Haithabu find is especially striking for its finely carved decoration in the wood, but the construction technique based on curved wood stitched with roots is the same as this traditional Finnish recipient called “Vakka”. These boxes, available in different sizes, are hand made by our partner, a renowned Finnish craftsman, using a traditional technique that consists of bending fine willow wood, sewn with birch roots. The top and bottom are made of alder wood. These boxes are perfect for storing small items, like jewelry, creating your own historical sewing box, or even storing dry food in the pantry or during the reenactment events. Dimensions: – Small: 10.5 cm x 6.5 cm x 6 cm – Medium: 14 cm x 9.5 cm x 7 cm – Large: 19.5 cm x 13.5 cm x 7 cm Additional Notes: The wood is treated with linseed oil, which can have a rather distinctive aroma at first.
