While Skywalker was fighting his way through the foundries on Geonosis, his lightsaber was destroyed by a mechanical cutting arm. Around 29 BBY Padawan Anakin Skywalker traveled to Ilum. There he found his kyber crystal. He used it then to construct his first lightsaber.
