Viking Turtle Brooches from Birka

Pair of magnific tortoise brooches, replica of a find from Birka, Sweden. Dated on 10th century. Definitely it’s one of the more awesome brooches that are preserved from the Viking Era. “Each woman wears on either breast a box of iron, silver, copper or gold; the value of the box indicates the wealth of the husband. Each box has a ring from which depends a knife”. Ibn Fadlan’s Account of the Rus. It presents several horse-shaped protuberances and interlaced reliefs shaping open works.
