Description Gobindobhog rice is Bengal’s favourite variety of rice. The grains of Gobindobhog rice are short and upon being boiled, the rice turns out to be soft, sweet, buttery and slightly sticky. This is very different from the properties of Basmati Rice. Do you know where the name ‘Gobindobhogh’ comes from? It is called so because this rice is the primary ingredient in the prasaad of Govindaji (the diety of the Sett family in Kolkata). You can use this to cook pulao, khichuri and even payesh.
