Brooch or pin with dragon head, based on archaeological finds typical on the Viking settlement area between 800 and 1100 AD and are known, for example, from the sites of Birka, Hedeby, York, Dublin and Trondheim. It’s made of bone, finely carved. The bone was a great alternative to the brooches made of bronze or silver, and it is an ideal complement for those reenactors who want to portray a low social status character. Although in reenactment it’s commonly used as a hairpin, we think it was historically used as a brooch, and we show a photo of how it could be used, attaching a leather strap as a subjection system.
