This detailed pendant is a based on the penny of Aethelred II, coined by the moneyer named Aelfric or Elfric. A “moneyer Elfric coin” refers to a silver penny struck by a moneyer named Elfric during the Anglo-Saxon period, with examples found for various kings including Æthelred II (978–1016), Cnut (1016-1035), William I (1066–1087), and Henry I (1100-1135). These coins, identifiable by the inscription of their mint and the name “Ælfric” or “Aelfric,” were produced in various mints, including London, Southwark, Bath, and Bridport, and are considered rare, especially for certain mints and kings. Vikings wore coins primarily as a means of safely and conveniently carrying their wealth, especially since coins were valued by their weight in silver, not so much by their face value. Coins served not only as a form of trade or tribute payment, but also as a personal way to carry and protect their wealth, often melting or cutting the coins to obtain the desired weight for transactions. This pendant is handmade of bronze, and it’s also available on silver plated bronze. Measurements: 2 x 2.5 cm 0/5 (0 Reviews)
